Answers to some of the questions that are frequently asked by our
prospective clients.
Can you define a particular polymer material?
It goes without saying that in our laboratory we have efficient testing procedures – like IR spectroscopy, AAS and ion-spectroscopy, as well as REM-EDX – to define any type of polymer and those organic and inorganic additives it contains.
Can you define the processing quality of a plastic material?
By means of structural analysis in light-optical and electron microscopy and thermoanalytic measuring methods (DSC, DTA, TGA, . . .) as well as by measuring the viscosity compared the original material state, the processing quality of a plastic material can be determined. In addition, characteristic mechanical values under static and dynamic stress are used for this evaluation.
Can you estimate the ageing state of a plastic part?
A specific ageing state can be determined on account of changes in the stabilisation condition of a plastic material (OIT) as well as by changes in the molecular structure (MFR, viscosity number, molecular weight distribution), furthermore by differences in coloration (VIS spectroscopy) and by alterations in the mechanical properties.
Is the corrosion protection of plastic still efficient?
The effectiveness of corrosion protective polymer layers can be determined efficiently by means of a high voltage electric detection (hand instrument testing up to 30 kV, stationary testing instrument up to 200 kV) and by means of aerosol-salt-spray testing or by testing under simulated industrial conditions.
Can you give us an offer for testing our product?
In accordance with a specific problem the VAKU offers a comprehensive testing program with a declaration of costs and a suggestion of the corresponding time table and forwards it to the prospective client.
Is there any possibility that a product has the risk of being harmful to health?
On account of safety data sheets and technical declarations on standard plastic materials we can inform our partners about any health risks that may be caused by their particular material.
Can you establish the water quality?
Basic parameters concerning water quality (pH-value, anions, cations, TOC and DOC values, etc.) can be determined by our chemical analysis.
Can you classify the flammability of a product?
Our testing station is fully equipped for current testing procedures for materials and component parts according to ÖNORM, DIN, UL, etc.
Can you perform tests according to special regulations as for example according to ÖNORM, EN, ISO, ÖVGW and DVGW?
Upon customer inquiry a great number of testing procedures according to specially requested national, European, and International standards and regulations can be performed within the accreditated, resp. the non-accreditated scope of our testing institute.
Can you take over testing and auditing contracts in other countries as well?
The flexibility and competence of our staff enables us to offer and perform product testing, damage assessment, in-plant and audit testing of production processes not only throughout European countries, but also overseas.
At present we co-operate on an international basis with Mexico, Egypt, China, Israel, Singapore and Turkey.
